Outward Journey

I set off on the Sankey Canal, it was called the Sankey Navigation Canal and was the first canal in the country built in the industrial revolution.  The bridge in the picture is the first viaduct in the country.   All this history on the doorstep and yet there is nothing in the area publicising this.
Setting off along Sankey Valley, ice on the canal and very cold and misty.
An unusual signpost at Fiddlers Ferry

The tops of the towers just appearing in the mist

Approaching Widnes with the sun coming through the mist.

The estuary is a sanctuary for all birds, especially waders. There is information and what you can see through each window. Also a long viewing platform built over the estuary.
